Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission: Tech Talk discusses the Role of Technology

Last week the Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission released its Interim Report into the tragic events of the 7th of February 2009.
On Tech Talk Radio we discussed the Interim Report with respect to identified technology issues, and technological recommendations which the Royal Commission might make for the 2009–10 bushfire season.

Dr Ron: tomorrow night’s Special Guest Star on Tech Talk Radio

The increasingly elusive Dr Ron predicts he will be tomorrow night’s Special Guest Star on Tech Talk Radio.
Thanks to everyone who has emailed me asking if I’m still alive and kicking. I can assure you I am both (a) alive and (b) kicking well.
It’s been a busy week at work for me. The week started around the 19th of Feb and just this weekend I’ve had two days off. In a row, what’s more! It’s the nature of the beast unfortunately.
Additionally the .MOBI website is horrendously out-of-date, for which I apologise. I’ve got two weeks leave coming up so I’ll get that sorted soon. Also thanks to JD for his expert opinion and assistance on The Panel over the last few weeks.
It’s a shame I didn’t get to last week’s programme with Jason Stirling from Genesys, I was going to ask him why he didn’t give me a job back in 2002 and what went wrong in my interview. Hahahahahaha 
It’s a small industry and as things turned out, I started selling voice resource cards and ISDN interface cards to Genesys business partners anyway. Heh heh.

Tech Talk Radio moves to new 3WBC Studios

At last!
It seemed like an eternity but at last we’ve moved out of the old Neighborhood House in Burwood, to the new custom-built studio complex in the Box Hill Town Hall.
This facility has been built by audio engineers and will reflect well on the quality of programmes that are produced at 3WBC, for several reasons:
- No more squeaky chairs or noisy microphone stands;
- Better acoustics with sound-proofing and carpeted floors – no cicadas in the background during summer!!;
- A separate edit suite for off-air production;
- Noisy equipment racks have been moved out of the studio into their own equipment room;
- Better lighting; and
- Brand new mixing desks, CD players, headphones and other audio equipment.
There’s a nice big window too, so people walking past can watch what’s happening in the main studio.
Andrew’s given the 3WBC website a timely spruce-up as well.
Well done to everyone who’s been involved in the move from Burwood, it was worth the wait and will certainly reflect well on the quality of the station’s programming.
The old studio (RIP). The TTR crew used to bring along their own mixing desk and audio equipment (foreground) each week to accommodate extra guests and panelists.
